A beautiful unknown: the Plantagenet city

In the old city, the visitor is transported back to the 15th century, at the time when the last representatives of the Plantagenet dynasty made famous by Henry II of England, among which Richard the Lion-Heart, wandered in these paved alleys lined with wood-framed houses.

The Plantagenet city is a well-preserved place behind the 1,300 m of the Roman wall, one of the best preserved in Europe with those of the two imperial capitals: Rome and Istanbul.
Unmissable: the Saint-Julian’s cathedral and its chapel of the musician angels.
Built between the 11th and the 15th centuries, this masterpiece of Gothic and Roman art has been enriched with the various architectural styles.

A fascinating setting…
In the summer, the Plantagenet city comes on stage with the Night of Chimeras, an unmissable show of the old city during which each visitor is invited to relive the film of 2,000 years of history on the giant screen made of the Roman wall, the cathedral, the fronts of the houses or the paved alleys…

An historic setting that has already been used by cinema: The Plantagenet city regularly offers a privileged setting for many films: Cyrano de Bergerac (1989), Le Bossu (1997), The man in the iron mask (1997), Les Blessures assassins (1999), Julie, Chevalier de Maupin (2004), Molière (2006), L’Assassinat d’Henri IV (2008) …
